Winners Announced for the 2017 White Squirrel Photo Contest
The Transylvania Community Arts Council has partnered with the Heart of Brevard to host the 13th annual White Squirrel Photo Contest. Tammy Hopkins, executive director of the TC Arts Council said, “There were 46 entries this year by photographers from Brevard, Pisgah Forest, Penrose, Etowah, Hendersonville, Flat Rock, Lake Toxaway and Charlotte, NC and as far away as Colorado and Hawaii. We would like to thank Jack Christfield, Kathy Voltz and R.K. Young for being our local photography judges.
And the winners are: 1st Place: Janis Keim – “Siblings”; 2nd Place: Gloria Clouse – “Checking the Rain Gauge”; 3rd Place: Vickie McCall Carpenter – “Boo”; and a Special Award for CUTENESS went to David Cantwell – “Sleeping Squirrel”. Honorable Mentions included: John Schwert – “Tennis Anyone”; Stefan Jagoe – “What are you looking at?”; Leslie Threlkeld – “Breakfast”; Steve Rose – “Squirrel Eye”; Arline MacNeil – “White Squirrel on Bird Feeder” and Trula Brannon – “Nutkin”.
Be sure to check out the white squirrel photos at the White Squirrel Festival. Photos will be on display at the new location for D.D. Bullwinkel’s Outdoors at 60 East Main Street between Theophilus and Jaimes. Photos will be ready for viewing May 25 – 29.
