Fall Gallery Walk on October 27 Kicks-Off Halloweenfest
It’s going to be a spook-tackular weekend in Brevard! Start your Halloween festivities with the Brevard Fourth Friday Gallery Walk on Friday, October 27 from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Enjoy an evening stroll in downtown as you explore art, music, wine, and beer tasting. Twenty-eight downtown art galleries, retail stores and restaurants will be participating. The Oskar Blues Trolley will run during gallery walk with stops at the following locations: TC Arts Council, West Main Street in front of Trade Arama and the Haen Gallery/Brevard Lumberyard Area. The trolley does continuous loops from 6 p.m – 8 p.m.
The TC Arts Council is partnering with the Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute to present a look at space thru a dynamic exhibition of Astrophotos, 3D Planet Surfaces, Science Posters, Space Art, Minerals, and space associated artifacts from Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute (PARI). Also at TC Arts visitors can participate in the hands on art program presented by the Transylvania County NAACP called “Put Yourself on the Line”. The NAACP will bring in a clothesline, fabric, markers, and easels and invite the community to create art on the chosen topic. To date, the topics that have been featured are: Health Care, The Arts Matter, Parks and Forests, and Diversity. Individuals will be able to create their own piece of art on any of the topics.
Number 7 Arts Gallery will feature six artists for Gallery Walk: Marcia Brennan – papier mache and watercolor, Peter Chumbley – acrylics, Elda Brown – fiber, Brenda Cameron -fiber, Diane Kuehn – fiber and brooches, and Holland Van Gores – woodworking. Meet these artists and more during Brevard’s 4th Friday Gallery Walk, October 27 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Red Wolf Gallery features the work of local, regional and national artists including gallery owner Ann DerGara. Stop by for great art, refreshments and wine. Next door at Steve Owen & Associates check out the artwork of Brevard’s 15 year old Alana Merrell. Just behind Steve Owen is the gallery called ArtWorks. A new exhibit will open at ArtWorks for gallery walk called “small, squared”, with new works all 8”x8″ inches or less, created by artists McKenzie Keenan, Deborah Kidwell and Chuck Kidwell.
Gallery at 36 features world-class abstract paintings, sculpture, and pottery of artists Judith Duff, Jerry Domokur, Shozo Michikawa, and Seungho Yang. This gallery is located next to Wine Down on Main. Wine Down on Main will host musical entertainment and a new artist at each gallery walk.
Artists @ Work will once again be bringing live music to the top of the stairs with the band Hawk Mountain! Two new artists have arrived on the floor – Lucy Reiser, acrylic painter and Emma Zanetti, Silversmith. Lots of live art demonstrations happening as well so be sure to climb the stairs between Number 7 Arts and The White Squirrel Shoppe and find a treasure.
Join Starfangled Press for the opening reception of “Dinosauriformes ” a new solo-exhibition featuring the block prints of Asheville-based artist Sam Moody. Each print is a rendition of a specific dinosaur (or descendant of dinosaurs!) that has been chosen from the artist’s childhood toys and depicted in a portrait like manner. With a strong element of imagination and sophisticated use of patterns and detail, “Dinosauriformes ” will delight art lovers of all ages! Meet the artist and enjoy a complimentary Oskar Blues beer tasting + popcorn bar at 36 W Jordan St.
Located just across the alley from Starfangled Press is Aura Gallery & Studio which is located inside of Be Boutique on Jordan Street. This multi-use space features the artwork of Billy Smith, Bonita Shipman, Grey Freeman and guest artists. Around the corner on Broad Street check out Dragonfly Gallery featuring local artists, custom framing and unusual art inspired gifts ranging from boutique clothing, jewelry and home décor.
You are invited to drop by Local Color to see what is new from their featured artists and creative minds, including Susan Starkey’s Alcohol Ink and mixed media art. They still have some of Jill Haynie’s limited edition “PARI 2017 Eclipse Stones” available, with 20% of the profits going to PARI. Inquire about the free art giveaway and a chance to get a free bar of their amazing handmade soap, and free hugs from Paul. A few doors check out Broad Street Wines who will offer a wine tasting during gallery walk with musical entertainment by Mike Sweet.
Main Street Ltd. will offer complimentary wine tasting from 5 p.m.to 7 p.m. Enjoy sampling new wines offered at discount rates during the gallery walk. The Hollingsworth Gallery will feature photos by the following members of the Land of Waterfalls Camera Club: Gloria Clouse, Don Voltz, Robert Krause, Mike Shelley, Paul Krause, and Chuck Dunn.
Trade-Arama will be featuring new artist Michael Bennett from Raleigh, NC. Bennett is an illustrator who has done work for magazines, posters, album covers and books. He is an established artist with an international reputation for his surrealistic work, particularly with the music industry. They also have artwork by Drew Deane, Charles Walker, Marlene London, David Williams, Susan Pfieffer, Heath Seymour, Melissa Crase, David Jones, Kim Jones, Art Snake and more. They will be serving appetizers and drinks during gallery walk.
Located in the Brevard Lumberyard Arts District is The Haen Gallery which offers stunning and sophisticated contemporary art including large sculpture, from local, national, and international artists. Stop by for art, wine and refreshments. Also located at the Brevard Lumberyard Arts District is Magpie Meat & Three and 185 King Street.
For those looking to get their retail shopping on, check out the new D.D. Bullwinkel’s Outdoors, and their neighbor Theophilus. They feature art in the form of fashion, gifts and home décor. Those looking for late night music should stop by The Phoenix & the Fox for the band Virginia & The Slims, featuring Swing/Jive/Jump Blues/Jazz and a Costume Party and Costume Contest from 9 p.m. to 12a.m. Over at 185 King Street enjoy music by the Fin Dog Band starting at 8 p.m. 185 will also be hosting a Halloween costume party.
